I have been actively involved in the process of building of Newsletters from the scratch for industries like Oil exploration, MLM. Prior to this experience i have been involved in developing content for the Software sales Journal, My Plastics Journal ,Food & Beverage Journak and The Sterling Report.
All this journals & reports caters to North American market. During conceptulization and development of this marketing tools was a very interesting and challenging too, As one has to understand the industry, its trend and taste of the people.
In my experience it was most difficult to have content from the Food & Beverage industry authors and professionals, reasons may be - Contributor is very much choosy, may not be checking their email, willing to write only for payment.
There are instances where in I was able to strike series of articles form one author for plastics Journal.

Undoubtedly, we are marketers to make great sales as end result of our efforts. We just concentrate on our efforts which creates an environment for great sales to happen. We perform activites like newsletter content development, market research on internet, competitor's study, means of creating new avenues of Revenue.
All this helps us to strengthen our brand for long run. People start believing in us because of qualitative, continuous disciplined efforts by remaining a genuine player in the respective industry.
Even today if anyone sees any information in other media say, newspapers, television ....then first reliable means of getting to know about the news/product/service will be WEBSITE. We are the people who play a vital role in building content and text of the website, as we see the website as a tool of Marketing and Brand building.

In my experience, generating/collecting content for any newsletter/journal is never an easy job. There are lot many aspects one has to keep in mind. Here are few of them for your reference.
1.
Free or Original Content It is a hard time initially to have an original article contribution from the author because the newsletter is new in the market, may be we are searching for free content and importantly we are not very much choosy, to begin with.
2.
Free Articles We do get free articles or the articles which were publish with some or the other Journal of same industry. These articles are good to use initially, just to start getting associated with currently "actively contributing" authors. Believe me contributors are spreading brand of the website at a rapid rate within a focused group.
3.
Email List We are also in dearth of high quality emailids of the audience we are targeting. Our motto of starting Newsletter is to have more Optin Emailids.
